In this lesson, you will learn:

Beginning Ten Key

The program at this time uses ONLY "Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing". This is a certificated program: on completion of three speed tests of

150 KSPM with 95 % accuracy

a Certificate of Achievement will be issued for resume or employment portfolios.

You will learn to:

  1. Navigate in Mavis Beacon to the User Tab
  2. Change from Keyboarding to Ten Key
  3. Save changes
  4. Type to 150 Key Strokes per minute (KSPM) at 95 % accuracy

This program is based on Mavis Beacon at this time. The version does not matter, and work can be done at home using Mavis Beacon ONLY, submitting three completed speed test certificates that meets the minimum criteria.

Using Mavis Beacon

Click on Start
Go to All Programs
Go to Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing
Click on the Mavis Program
First Time Users Entering Mavis Beacon
  1. Click "Create New User"
  2. At WELCOME TO REGISTRATION click "Next"
  3. Enter your FULL NAME and click "Next"
  4. Choose your USER GROUP and click "Next"
  5. Choose "101 Standard" and click "Next"
  6. Choose "Standard" and click "Next"
  7. Change the GOALS to "55" and click "Next"
  8. Choose "Finish"
  9. Click the mouse or hit "Enter" twice to get past the movie
  10. Click on the computer screen
  11. Click on "Beginner Typist"
  12. On the left side, click Start Lesson
  1. Click "User Manager"
  2. Click on "IMPORT"
  3. Under "Look In" at the top, select "My Documents" and your student folder
  4. Click on your name. (eg. John Smith.rec)
  5. click "Open"
  6. CLOSE USER MANAGER - click "Close"
  7. You should be back in "Class Sign In" click on your name
  8. Choose "Enter Classroom"
  9. Click the mouse or hit "Enter" twice to get past the movie
  10. Click on the computer screen
  11. On the left side, click Start Lesson
To Exit and save your Data
  1. Click "Exit"
  2. Click "START AS A DIFFERENT USER"
  3. Click "USER MANAGER"
  4. Click on your name
  5. Click on "EXPORT"
  6. Under "Save In" choose "My Documents" and "Mavis Beacon"
  7. Select "Open"
  8. Select "Save"
  9. Click "CLOSE" to close the User Manager
  10. Click "EXIT"
  11. Now you are sure you want to leave so Click on "YES"
  12. To stop the movie and clear the screen press click the mouse.
